The following agriculture courses will be offered in other years or are independent study strictly with instructor's permission.
Three courses will be offered in a three year rotation.
Agribusiness Management & Sales- 1 credit, 10-12, PreReq: Ag Explorations
This full year course is designed to include essential ag business management and financial evaluation principles for the student looking for a careeer in the argiculture industry. Instruction will be in the areas of decision making, marketing basics, fundamental analysis, technical analysis, using futures, using ag options marketing math, marketing in a global economy, hedging strategies, speculation, marketing strategy for livestock/grain, obtaining and using credit effectively, preparing a cash flow statement, preparing a balance sheet, preparing an income statement, analyzing financial performance, and managing the agriculture business. Students will trade ag commodities utilizing the DTN to monitor changes in commodities. This class is tailored for students interested in careers in ag economics, ag finance, production ag, ag sales, and other business opportunities
Agricultural Education as a Career- 1 credit,
11-12, Pre Req: 2 previous ag years and Instructor Permission
This year long course offers in depth study of a career in Agriculture Education.
The students will explore various aspects of teaching agriculture and
explore possible career options by pursuing a career in Agriculture Education.
Students will spend time researching and colleges with Ag Ed majors,
explore history and basic fundamentals in Agriculture Education, analyze various
teaching philosophies, explore curriculum available for teaching agriculture,
design and teach an agriculture lesson to elementary students, and team teach
some lessons with the Agriculture Instructor. The course will be team
taught online by Agriculture Education Instructors from all across the state
of Kansas.
The following agriculture classes will be offered as individualized study courses strictly with instructor's permission:
College Agriculture Economics- 1/2 credit, 11-12, PreReq: Agribus Mgmt & Instructors Permission
This one semester course is offered for dual credit. This couse includes the role that agriculture plays in today's modern economic world. It will examine the principles of economics and define how they can be used in agriculture. This course gives advanced ag. ed. students an opportunity for further study into ag econ/agribusiness and Econ-AGR 213) is granted through Allen County Community College at students expense.
College Animal Science- 1/2 credit, 11-12, PreReq: Animal Science and Instructors Permission
This one semester course is offerd for dual credit. This course will cover the principles that apply to the field of animal agriculture: survey the industry types, purposes and products of livestock, principles of breeding, selections, nutritions, lactation, reproduction, management, and marketing. This course gives advanced agriculture education students an opportunity for further study into animal science and is designed to help ease the transition into college. Three hours of college credit (Animal Science-AGR 103) is granted through Allen County Community College at students expense.
Agri Science Research- 1/2 credit, 12, PreReq: 2 years of Ag and Instructors Permission
This semester long course offers in depth study of the scientific method of research. The student will select, research, and conduct and agriculture based scientific experiment. Involvement with this course will involve communication with university professors and a great deal of student initiative. A display board will be constructed to allow the student to display the results of the experiment. The primary aim of this course is to introduce students to the careers and opportunities in agriscience research.
AG-OJT Agriculture-On the Job Training- 1 credit, 12, PreReq: 2 years of Ag and Instructors Permission
This one year course has a student placed out in the community working for an agribusiness for 1 block every other day. Student will keep records and track skill development using the Kansas Ag Ed Record Book and Quicken. The course will be a combination of in school class preparation and a majority of on the job placement. The experience will be summarized using the FFA placement proficiency award application. The student is responsible for transportation to and from the placement site.
