1. If a student has an idea of what future career (job) he/she is interested in, he/she should select courses that are aimed toward achievement of that goal. Information on courses needed for various careers may be abtained from the high school counselor, the Internet or people who are presently in that job.
2. Students need to keep in mind their own abilities and the graduation requirements when they select courses.
3. Courses should not be selected because thay are easy, can make a good grade and raise their GPA (grade point average), or because a friend is planning on taking the course. Each person is unique and a friend does not have the same needs you have for the future.
Advanced Placement Courses- 1 credit, 11-12, Pre-req: principal/counseler approval
AP courses are designed for highly motivated students who are looking for challenging curriculum beyond the regular high school course offerings. Currently these classes are being offered with the expectations that the student will take the AP exam which can lead to college credit. The following AP courses are available, but not limited to, AP history and politics, AP macro economics, AP micro biology, AP english, AP calculus, AP chemistry, and etc. Onlive students will be charged a fee of $100.00 at the time of enrollment. Concurrent Credit Courses
As approved by the Holton Board of Education, students who take a college course their junior year or senior year can recieve concurrent credit if they meet the following requirements:
1) The course is taken from a certified Kansas College or University or the student has recieved pre-approval from the building administrator
2) The course is not currently offered during the high school day. If the course is offered within the high school curriculum, the student must take the course at the high school.
3) The course can be taken in the evenings or during school. If the course is taken on-line, the student may choose to enroll in an independent study time to do this work during the day.
