Kaw Area Techincal School, located in Topeka, is an option
for high school juniors and seniors. Students may visit with Marvin Ire, Kaw
Tech counselor every Thursday and apply to attend KATS part-time during their
junior &/or senior year. Most KATS programs are 1080 clock hours (2 years
part-time as a high school student). Students completing a programs at KATS
receive a certificate of completion, assistance with interviewing, resumes,
some OJT(on the job training), and job placement. Students may also choose
to work toward an associates degree and amy earn anywhere from 10-45 college
credits for completion of their program with KATS toward their Associate's
Degree at Washburn University, Allen County Community College, Highland Community
College, or Kansas City, Kansas Community College.
Kaw Area Tech graduates currently pay $21 + books and fees per credit hour
to attend Washburn University for their Associate's Degree. At Allen County
Community College, the cost is $45 per credit hour including books and fees.
The cost at Highland Community College is $46 per credit hour including books
and fees. The cost at Kansas City, KS Community College is $38 +books and
fees. Allen County And Highland both have satellite programs in nearby communities.
