BAND - 1 credit per year, 9-12, PreReq: ability to play a concert band instrument.
The band studies various styles and difficulties of instrumental literature - including small ensembles to large concert works. The band performs as a Marching Band during football season and as a Pep Band during basketball season. Students also perform as a concert band for several concerts during the year and as ensembles at various community events.
Percussion
Class -
1 credit per year, 9-12, PreReq:
Percussion class will
be a practice as well as performance. Students must
know how to read music, including medium to complex
rhythms. Students should know the basic rudiments
and know how to read treble and bass clef in order
to play definite pitch instruments such as timpani,
as well as infinite pitch instruments such as snare,
cymbals, quads, ect. Performances could include,
but not limited to, football and basketball games,
as well as concerts and other public venues. Students
would have to supply a uniform, shirt, sticks, and
in some cases their own snare drum. You must be enrolled in a band class to be in Percussions Class.
Jazz Band - 1 credit, 9-12. PRE-REQ: Ability
to play a typical jazz band instrument, Audition & Instructor Approval:
Students must be a member of Concert Band. Membership will be by audition.
Literature will include big band, jazz, rock, ballad, ect. Study will
also include some music theory such as improvisation, chord structure,
form, ect.
HHS SINGERS 1 credit per year, 9-12, PreReq: Audition and Instructor
Approval.
Students need to have a basic understanding of the
choral atmosphere. Emphasis on basic part reading, note recognition and
intonation. This class is intended as a “pre-requisite” for
Chamber Choir and Noteables. Most Freshman will be required to take this
class prior to auditioning for any of the other ensembles.Through the
preparation and performance of a variety of high quality choral music,
the members of the A Cappella choir will: develop a refined sense of
musicianship, maintain a high standard of performance, and serve as positive
representatives of HHS by performing at school and community functions.
HHS CHAMBER CHOIR - 1 credit per year, 9-12, PreReq: Audition and Instructor Approval.
Students need to have a basic understanding of the choral atmosphere, including: Hearing their part in a four ( or more) part setting, Pitch accuracy, harmonic understanding and intonation. This is the “select” Large Ensemble at HHS. Through the preparation and performance of a variety of high quality choral music, the members of the A Cappella choir will: develop a refined sense of musicianship, maintain a high standard of performance, and serve as positive representatives of HHS by performing at school and community functions.NOTABLES - 1 credit per year, 10-12, PreReq: Audition and Instructor Approval.
This class is the 'elite' performing group, at HHS. More stringent auditions and more demand on time and talent is paramount to the success of this group.Through the preparation and performance of a variety of high quality choral music, the members of the HHS Notables will: develop refined musicianship skills, increase in knowledge of music theory, history and performance practice, develop refined artistic musical performance skills, and serve as positive representatives of HHS by performance skills, and serve as positive representatives of HHS by performing at school and community functions.
