Works Cited Format (MLA Style)

Note: Double space the information you include. The second line should be indented 5 spaces. The examples on this page are not indented on the second line because it is hard to indent on a web page.

Books:
Author (last name first). Title. City where book is published: Publisher, copyright date.
Example:
Allen, Thomas B. Vanishing Wildlife of North America. New York: Harcourt, 1974.

Magazine:
Author (last name first). "Title of the article." Title of the magazine Date (day, month, year): page numbers of the article.
Example:
Kanfer, Stefan. "Heard Any Good Books Lately?" Time 21 July 1986:71.

Electronic Sources

Note: Internet sources often have no authors or page numbers. Cite an author's name, use the source's title, and include page numbers whenever possible. If none of these are provided on the Internet source, then leave that portion of the citation blank. For the latest information on citing electronic sources, please check The Write Source web site.

Web Site:
Author. Title of site. Date posted, or last update. Sponsoring organization. Date accessed <Electronic address>.
Example:
ESPN.com. 10 Nov. 1999. ESPN Internet Ventures. 24 Nov. 1999 <http://espn.go.com>.

Article in a Reference Database:
Author. "Title of article." Title of database, magazine, site. Volume or issue numbers. Date posted. Sponsoring organization. Date accessed <Electronic address>.
Example:
"Astronomy." Collier's Online. 1997. Collier's Encyclopedia. 14 Jan. 1998 <http://www.ce.com>.
