Mission

The mission of the Holton Middle School Library Media Center is to effectively educate students so that they will become effective information users and life-long learners. Therefore, the school library media program:

  • Guarantees equal access to all patrons,
  • Provides resources that support the curriculum,
  • Provides books for AR and recreational reading,
  • Provides instruction in the retrieval, evaluation, and utilization of information.

Resources

  • Approximately 5500 Books and print reference materials
  • 22 computers available for student use in the library
  • 48 laptop computers available for use in the classroom
  • Magazines available for checkout
  • 6 VCR/TV carts
  • Videos and software available for instructional use
  • 2 Teaching stations
  • Library Pro automated card catalog
  • 18 Alpha Smarts available for checkout

Hours

The library is open every afternoon until 3:30 p.m. and until 4:00 p.m. on certain days.

Checkout Policies

Students may check out up to 4 books and/or magazines at a time for three week periods. They may renew materials for two more weeks. If a student has overdue books, only 1 book at a time may be checked out. Overdue books must be returned or the student is responsible to pay for the book.

Library Media Center Use

Students are welcome to use the library during EO each morning. If a student is in the library at any other time, a teacher must give permission. Students may use the computers for research, word processing, or AR tests if there is not a class scheduled to use them. There is one computer dedicated for AR so that students may take an AR test at any time. The library is open from 30 minutes to one hour after school each day for student use. Students are expected to work quietly, or they will be asked to leave the Library Media Center.

Supplies in the Library Media Center

There are various supplies available to students for use in the library, these include: a pencil sharpener, scissors, glue, markers, tape, three hole punch, pencils, colored pencils and stencils.
