  • Analysis: Imagine you are a fellow poet and have been invited to E.D.'s home for tea. Write a diary entry discussing your impressions and the conversations of the visit.
  • Knowledge: Research the life of Emily Dickinson. Write a 1/2 page essay about her, highlighting the significance of the following dates: December 10, 1830, May 15, 1886, and the year 1890.
  • Application: Choose one poem by E.D. and rate it (1-5) using the six-traits of writing (voice, organization, idea, conventions, word choice, sentence fluency). Explain each of your ratings
  • Comprehension: Describe the events: 1). surrounding Emily Dickinson's death; 2). define heliotropes; 3). Explain Ms. Dickinson's fasination with the color white. Write your findings in a paragraph.
  • Synthesis: Read "This is my Letter to the World." Rewrite the 3rd and 4th line of each stanza. Display the new poem on a piece of construction paper.
  • Evaluation: Read "Success is Counted Sweetest" and write a paragraph explaining what you think it means.
