The prerequisite for all upper-level agriculture courses in Agriculture Exploration.  Due to scheduling conflicts and other situations, students who were unable to take Ag Ex can take Ag Mechanics, Horticulture, Animal Science, etc. by completing the following requirements listed below:

 

1.              Meet with Mr. Larison to set up a Supervised Agriculture Experience Program (SAE) program.  You will set goals, brainstorm SAE ideas, and get your record book started.  This may require an out of school meeting to finalize the details.  Your SAE Record starts officially September 1.  DUE DATE: Sept 1

 

2.              Memorize and recite the FFA Creed.  This public speaking exercise is an introduction to making a presentation and communicating on your feet.  You must present the memorized creed to Mr. Larison. (The creed is in place of the two Ag Ex speaking requirements which in addition to the creed, agriculture students are required to give a research, write, and memorize a 2-3 minute speech over an agriculture topic.)  DUE DATE:  Sept 25

 

3.              You must complete general agriculture knowledge activities and research to cover a basic understanding of the agriculture industry.  The instructions are listed in detail below, email or turn in the completed activities.

General Agriculture Knowledge Activities and Research

 

Step 1 -Read the Following Lessons on AgEdNet.com (Located in the FFA Reference Library) See Mr. Larison for the entrance password.

             *(You only need to read these, do not do the end of unit exercise)

 

Step 2 -After reading the three lessons, download and complete the FFA/Par Law Worksheet  (You can use the internet, FFA manual, or classroom texts as references) --Email or turn the worksheet in when finished--

 

Step 3 ÐUsing the local Holton FFA website as a reference, complete the following Online Holton FFA Quiz (You will be asked to enter a session name ÒHolton FFA QuizÓ, your name, and your password.  Your score will be automatically sent to Mr. Larison Ð YOU MUST ACHIEVE A 90 PERCENT or above ON THIS ACTIVITY Ð LOOK THEM UP!)

 

Step 4 Ð Choose four of the following lessons on AgEdNet.com read the lesson and copy/paste the 5 Òend of unitÓ questions in to Microsoft Word and email or turn in the 20 total questions (5 per unit) to Mr. Larison. (Hint Ð Make sure everything is labeled clearly as to which units you choose.  The lessons are located in the lessons library section.  The first two initials of each unit match the lesson they are in.  Ex Ð LA = Large Animal, EQ = Equine, etc,)

If you have any questions please ask Mr. Larison.  If you are not willing to complete each of the above requirements, you should see the guidance counselor about finding another class. If you do not complete the above activities you cannot receive credit for the upper level Ag Ed class.
